Melbourne, Dec 15 (IBNS): In a bid to return to the side ahead of the upcoming tournaments, including the World Cup next year, Australian skipper Michael Clarke will undergo a surgery on his injured right hamstring in Melbourne on Tuesday.

"Australia captain to go under the knife in Melbourne on Tuesday," Cricket Australia website said.

The injury has already ruled him out of the remaining of the Test series against India.

Steve Smith has been named the skipper of the side in his absence.

Australia is 1-0 up in the series after they defeated India in the first Test match.

The second Test match of the series will start at Brisbane from Wednesday.
