Bhubaneswar, Dec 14 (IBNS): India's plan of clinching at least a bronze medal in the Champions Trophy perished as they were defeated by Australia 1-2 here on Sunday. India finished fourth in the tournament.

Eddie Ockenden (19th minute) and Matt Gohdes (52nd) managed to score the winning goals for his side.

It was Lalit Upadhyay (42nd) who scored the only goal for India.

Australia were 1-0 up at the end of the first half of the match.

India scored the equaliser but Gohdes was quick in scoring the winning goal and clinching the bronze medal.

India had finished fourth in the last edition of the tournament in 2012.
