Kolkata/UNI: A spacious godown of a film production centre of Tollywood, some vehicles, police van and about 10/12 shops have been gutted in fire at three different places in the city, south 24 Parganas early Thursday, official sources said.

A firefighter was injured while combating the massive flames at the Eskay movie studio, storehouse, located in Kudghat area, state minister Aroop Biswas confirmed.

About 15 firefighting vehicles were used to douse the flames at the studio godown, which is located in the southern part of the city.

Sources said the cause of fire at the godown, which was stacked in inflammable materials, was yet to be ascertained.

In a separate blaze some four-wheelers, including a police vehicle and a number of two-wheelers have been managed following a fire adjacent to Baruipur police in South 24 Parganas this morning where two fire fighting cars were deployed to douse the flames.

Police said the blaze could have sparked from the stack of fire crackers, which were seized from Champahati bazar on Wednesday, and were dumped inside a drum in the vicinity of the Baruipur police station. There was no report of any injury in the fire.

About 10/12 shops have been gutted in a fire near Matla bridge at Canning in South 24 Parganas in the wee hours on Thursday, police said.

No one was injured in the fire, which was fought by the firefighting men, who deployed two vehicles.
