Kolkata/IBNS: In support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) working president Jagat Prakash Nadda will hold a rally- termed as "Abhinandan Yatra or Congratulatory Rally"- here on Monday.

The rally will begin at 12 pm in Subodh Mullick Square close to downtown Kolkata to Shyambazar in the northern part of the city.

Faced with massive protests, some of which have been violent, over the amended citizenship law, the BJP on Saturday decided to connect with three crore people over the next 10 days to firefight the situation nationally.

The streets of Kolkata in last one week have witnessed widespread protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, which will grant citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi but not Muslim refugees who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015.

Several rallies were held by the BJP's opponent parties with West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee hitting the streets on all days from Monday to Friday last week.

A large number of students from various colleges and universities also held a considerable number of rallies in the heart of the city.
