Assam Rifles conducts candle light march against drugs and HIV/AIDS

Guwahati, Apr 5 (IBNS): The Phek battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a candle light march on theme ‘Say No to Drugs and HIV/AIDS’  on Wednesday at Phek in Nagaland.

The aim behind the candle march was to educate the youth about the ill effects of Drugs on their health and menace of HIV/AIDS on their future.

Shanavas C, IAS, DC Phek and Dr Naieem Mustafa Masury, IPS, SP Phek was present at the event as  the Chief Guest.

A total of five officers, 20 JCOs, 66 Other Ranks of Assam Rifles and 486 civilians including 200 youths and 286 students from Phek town actively participated in the event.

The candle light march started from DC ground Phek town  to convey the message of ‘HIV/ AIDS FREE NAGALAND and SAY NO TO DRUGS’ and finished at Assam Rifles Battalion Headquarters.

Akhrie, Project Director, Eureka life foundation, Phek Dist along with Dr Lima, Epidemiologist, and Kuduvo kezo DPO, District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit inspired the youths to fight against drug abuse and HIV/ AIDS. Pledge candles were also placed under the poster of ‘Say No to drugs and HIV/AIDS’ by the participants and all promised to fight against the social menace.
