Modi not secular like Vajpayee: Farooq

India Blooms News Service | | 23 Apr 2014, 11:51 am
Srinagar, Apr 23 (IBNS): Union minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah hit out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and said he can never be a secular leader like former National Democratic Alliance (NDA) PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

"Vajpayee was also from the RSS but he was a modern man and he realised India has to be kept together. He had to forget the RSS ideology and carry every religion together. That was different. This man has made announcement already that 'I am a Hindu and my job is to see that Hindu's prosper'. Vajpayee never said that," Farooq was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN.

He was full of praises for Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and said the latter is handling the poll campaign efficiently.

"I don't think he is weak. What more do you expect him to do," he said.
