Lucknow, Apr 19 (IBNS) Defending its supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Saturday said he did not threaten teachers to vote for the party in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

"Mulayam Singh Yadav was joking. He did not threaten teachers. The Election Commission (EC) must reconsider its decision to slap a notice on him," said SP leader Rajendra Chaudhary.

Pertinently, on Apr 3, Mulayam allegedly threatened contractual government teachers at Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh that they will be sacked if they did not vote for the SP.

The EC on Friday issued a show-cause notice to Mulayam on the same.
