Coronavirus outbreak: Iran's deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi tests positive

Tehran/IBNS: A day after claiming that his government was getting the novel Coronavirus under its control, Iran deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi tested positive for the disease worsening the situation in the country, media reports said.

In a video, Harirchi said that he was self-isolating and starting medication.

This comes a day after he was seen rubbing his forehead repeatedly at a press conference on Monday.

Apart from Harirchi, another Iranian parliamentarian- named Mahmoud Sadeghi- informed on Twitter that his Coronavirus test came out to be positive.

"My corona test was positive. I give this message in a situation where I have little hope of living in this world," Sadeghi, the parliamentarian from Tehran, said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the Coronavirus death toll in Iran climbed to 16 on Tuesday amid the United States (US) sanctions on the country.

The death toll in Iran is the highest outside China where 2,663 people have already died due to the disease.

Iran has found itself in the midst of global isolation as dozens of countries have already accelerated emergency measures to curb the disease.

Though the disease has touched 29 countries, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has claimed the epidemic is declining since Feb 2.

South Korea is the country outside mainland China to have recorded the highest cases of Coronavirus with 977 people getting infected.

The country has reported 10 deaths so far.

Italy has recorded the highest number of cases (280) in Europe with seven deaths in the country.
