India's weightlifter Sanjita Chanu wins CWG gold

Gold Coast (Australia), Apr 6 (IBNS): Indian started their Commonwealth Games campaign on the second day of the event with a bang when weightlifter Sanjita Chanu clinched a gold medal in the women's 53 kg category.  

In her path to win the gold medal, Chanu put up a brilliant show when she lifted  a total of 192 kg that included a CWG record of 84 kg in the snatch and 108 kg in clean and jerk.

Congratulating her, Indian Olympic Association tweeted: "Oh! What a relief... #TeamIndia bags another Gold After a failed last attempt to lift 112kg, #TeamIndia's #SanjitaChanuKhumukcham almost had a scare till #TeamPNG's #LoaDikaToua also fouled on her way to lift 113kgs! #Congratulations #SanjitaChanu and well done #Loa #gc2018."

Loa Dika Toua (182 kg) of Papua New Guinea stood int he second spot while the third spot on the podium was occupied by  New Zealand's Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet (181 kg).

Mirabai Chanu earlier won the yellow metal in the  women's 48 kg event.
