Kolkata: Tata Docomo Business Services Corporate Golf Championship organised in Eco Park

Kolkata, Dec 1 (IBNS): Mayukh Ray of Bengal Ambuja and Nikita Biswas of Tollygunge Club won the Men’s and Women’s Longest Drive Challenge competition, respectively, at the Tata Docomo Business Services Eco Park Corporate Golf Championship held recently at the Eco Park Golf Arena in Kolkata.

Two hundred amateur golfers, representing 150 corporate house, participated in the event.

Debasis Sen, Chairman, HIDCO, was also present.

Mayukh Ray, Hotel General Manager, Gagan Kutir, recorded a mammoth drive of 296 yards in the final to beat Tony Das who recorded a drive of 284 yards.

Ray was in top form, having recorded an even longer drive of 302 yards, the longest of the day, in the run up to the finals.

“This is an excellent initiative by HIDCO. This has enabled a lot of golfers to continue playing golf, especially to the residents of this area. A very good and positive ambience,” said Ray.

Nikita Biswas drove the golf ball 207 yards to overcome the challenge of Samparna Saha who managed a best driving distance of 176 yards in the final.

Speaking on behalf of the tournament hosts,  Debasis Sen, Chairman, HIDCO, said that they are aiming at making the Eco Park Golf Arena one of the best golfing resorts in the region. 

"We thank all the tournament sponsors and participants for making this tournament such a resounding success and hope to hold more such initiatives throughout the year,” he said.

Vishal Bhat, Regional Operations Head for North & East (SME), Tata Docomo Business Services, said, “We are very happy to be associated with this excellent initiative in the heart of Kolkata’s newest business hub. Many congratulations to all the winners of the day. Golf has great history and tradition associated with the city of Kolkata and so does the Tata brand. Given the commonalities, Tata Docomo Business Services would continue to endeavor to grow and spread the game in the city in times to come.”

Apart from the Men’s and Women’s categories, there were two more categories in the tournament.

The pair of Rajiv Roy and Anupama Dasgupta representing eRevmax Technologies won the Mixed Doubles event, with a combined average driving distance of 232 yards, while the Veterans (above 50) event was won by the former IG of the Coast Guard, KS Sheoran, who drove the golf ball for a distance of 244 yards.

Some of the corporate houses who participated in the event were Cognizant, TCS, IBM, Tata Steel, Yes Bank, Mahindra, IXIA, Infinity, SREI, Accenture, HSBC, SIDDHA, Atos, eRevmax, ONGC, Deloitte, Web Spiders, Tractors India, Godrej, Mjunction and Capgemini.
