Pune, Feb 23 (IBNS): Despite a gutsy 57 runs knock by Mitchell Starc, India nearly dominated the first day of the first Test match of the series as Australia posted 256 runs for the loss of nine wickets here on Thursday.

India kept picking wickets at regular intervals to keep the pressure on the visitors.

Matt Renshaw shined with the bat at the top of the order and contributed 68 runs.

David Warner added 38 runs as both the batsmen contributed 82 runs in the opening stand.

After losing few quick wickets, Starc contributed some runs and added five boundaries and three sixes.

Umesh Yadav picked up four wickets for India.
