Karun scripts history, England eye to draw Test

Chennai, Dec 19 (IBNS): At the start of the day Karun Nair was just another name with a good domestic record, by the end of it, he is India's second batsman after Virender Sehwag to score 300 runs in a Test.

Nair swept his way towards the limelight as England look to save the final Test match.

India eventually declared their innings at 759 runs for the loss of seven wickets. This is only the third time that they have gone past 700 runs in an innings in Test cricket.

At the end of day's play, the visiting side have put on 12 runs without any casualty.

They still trail by 270 runs and with Kohli unleashing both Jadeja and Ashwing, it will surely test their temperament.

The Indian batters made light of the English total as they went past it during the second session of play.

Once past the total, Karun and Ashwin switched gears to score runs at a fast pace.

Though a brilliant diving catch cut short Ashwin's (67) innings, there was little respite for the visitors as their bowlers surrendered in front of Nair and Jadeja's stroke-play.

Nair was the most destructive among all the Indian batsman. Sweeping and reverse sweeping and pulling out the big shots, he just kept going hammer and tongs.

His 381-ball unbeaten innings was crusted with 32 fours and four sixes, majority of which was hit during the final session of the day.

Jadeja too gave away his innings towars the fag end of the day while trying to up the ante, but not before he compiled an innings of 51 runs off 55 balls, two of which disappered over the ropes for maximum and one carted along the ground.

For England Liam Dawson and Stuart Broad ended with a couple of scalps each, while Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes and Adil Rashid had one each to show for their efforts.
