Wimbledon: Federer advances to second round

London, June 24 (IBNS): Swiss Tennis star Roger Federer cruised to the second round of the men's singles event of the Wimbledon by beating Italy's Paolo Lorenzo here on Tuesday.

Federer, who is one of performers in the tournament, defeated his opponent by  6-1, 6-1, 6-3.

Federer won the match in an hour and 33 minutes.

In another match, Russian Tennis icon Maria Sharapova, who won the French Open title, reached the next round of the women's singles event by beating Samatha Murray of the UK by 6-1 6-0.


Polish player Agnieszka Radwanska beat Andreea Mitu 6-2 6-1 in the first round.

Federer's compatriot Stan Wawrinka defeated Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-3 6-4 6-3 in the first round clash of the men's event.
