India beat Sri Lanka, win series

Visakhapatnam, Feb 14 (IBNS): R Ashwin bowled a destructive spell and took four wickets and Indian batsmen played boldly as hosts defeated Sri Lanka by nine wickets in the third T20 match to clinch the series.

Bowling out Sri Lanka for 82 runs, India reached 84 runs by losing a wicket in 13.5 overs.

After losing Rohit Sharma (13) early, Shikhar Dhawan (46) and Ajinkya Rahane (22) reached the target without losing a single wicket.

Dhawan smashed five boundaries and a six in the innings.

Dushmantha Chameera picked up the only wicket for Sri Lanka.

Rahane and Shawan added 55 runs in the second wicket partnership.

Indian spinners dominated the show with R Ashwin picking up four wickets as India bowled out Sri Lanka for 82 runs in the third T20 match of the series here on Sunday.

R Ashwin destroyed the top order as he reduced the visitors to 3-12 at one point in the match.

Dasun Shanaka (19) and Thisara Perera (12) were the only Sri Lankan batsmen to touch the double figure mark.

The remaining of the batsmen returned to the pavilion without contributing much with their willows.

Ashwin ended the day with an impressive figure of 4-1-8-4 while Suresh Raina took two wickets and Ravindra Jadeja picked up a single wicket to end Sri Lanka's party.

Ashish Nehra and Jasprit Bumrah  picked up a wicket each.

India won the series 2-1.

Speaking after the match, Indian skipper MS Dhoni said: "I feel it was a very good game, important we restricted them to a decent total. Ashwin was the pick but he was well supported by the others."

"We want to keep playing the way we re playing. Consistency will give us the confidence," he said.

With the ICC World T20 round the corner, Man of the Series R Ashwin hopes that his good form 'lasts forever'.
