India gains ground in ICC Test Team Rankings after Colombo win

Dubai, Sept 1 (IBNS) Fifth-placed India has closed the gap on neighbour Pakistan to a single point in the latest ICC Test Team Rankings following its 2-1 series triumph over Sri Lanka which concluded with a 117-run win in Colombo on Tuesday.

Virat Kohli’s side went into the three-match series on 97 points and has gained three rankings points after coming from behind to win its first overseas Test series victory since 2011.

Just three points now separates England (third on 102 points), Pakistan (fourth on 101) and India (fifth on 100), with New Zealand a further point back in sixth position.

Angelo Mathews’ men, meanwhile, remain in seventh place but has dropped three rankings points

Bangladesh welcomes second-placed Australia in October for a two-match series with recently-installed captain Steven Smith aiming to close the gap on leader South Africa.

Pakistan will welcome England to the UAE for a three-Test series in October/November which is likely to lead to further movement in the table, while Sri Lanka’s also hosts West Indies in a two-Test series in October.
