Steve Smith excited over Test captaincy

London, Aug 14 (IBNS): Steve Smith welcomed Australian selectors decision to name him as the country's new Test skipper and said he is ' excited' over his new assignment.

"It's an honour and privilege to be given the opportunity to Captain the Australian Cricket Team. I'm really excited about what lies ahead," Smith tweeted.

He said the team will try to win the last Ashes Test to make current Test skipper Michael Clarke leave the game on a 'winning note'.

"We really want to send @MClarke23 out on a winning note this week. He's had a magnificent career and is a true great of Australian cricket," Smith said.

With Australia losing the Ashes following their defeat in the fourth Test against England, Clarke announced his decision to quit cricket after the series.

Clarke had won the ODI World Cup earlier this year.
