Starc, Hazlewood and Bishoo on the charge

India Blooms News Service | | 07 Jun 2015, 05:44 pm
Dubai, June 7 (IBNS) Australia pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, as well as West Indies wrist-spinner Devendra Bishoo have improved their rankings in the Reliance ICC Test Player Rankings following the conclusion of the first Test at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica.

Starc, who was adjudged player of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, has maintained his bowling form to claim match figures of six for 76, which has given him a lift of five places and has put him in a career-high 25th position in the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers.

Hazlewood, who was part of the Australia side that won the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand in 2010, has also achieved a career-best ranking of 31st after he has jumped 12 places following figures of three for 33 and two for 17.

Bishoo, who in 2011 won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year Award in London, has also made gains and his first innings figures of six for 80 have helped him leapfrog Jason Holder (50th) and Shannon Gabriel (51st) into 43rd position following a rise of 10 places.

In the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen, Australia’s Adam Voges, who won the player of the match award for his 130 not out, has entered in 65th position, while West Indies Shane Dowrich, who scored 15 and 70, has entered in 75th position.

Marlon Samuels and Shaun Marsh are the other batsmen to head in the right direction. Samuels now shares 28th spot with Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan after climbing two places, while Marsh has also moved up two spots to claim 55th position.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh hosts India in a one-off Test in Fatullah from Wednesday, 10 June. Virat Kohli’s side is ranked third on 99 points, while Mushfiqur Rahim side is ninth on 39 points. If India wins the Test, then it will gain one point and will retain its third position, but if it loses, then it will drop to seventh position on 95 points, such is the tightly-packed nature of the table at present. In case of a drawn match, India will drop to 97 points but will be ranked above England and Pakistan when the ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point.

The Reliance ICC Test Team Rankings predictor function is available here. The Test rankings table, unlike the ODI & T20I tables, is updated after the series.

In the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen, India boasts five batsmen inside the top 50 in Kohli (10th), Murali Vijay (23rd), Cheteshwar Pujara (24th), Ajinkya Rahane (26th) and Rohit Sharma (50th), while Mominul Haque is Bangladesh’s highest-ranked batsman in 22nd spot, followed by Tamim Iqbal (27th), Shakib Al Hasan (28th) and Mushfiqur Rahim (45th).

In the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers, India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will enter the series as the highest-ranked bowler in 13th position, followed by Shakib Al Hasan (17th), Ishant Sharma (19th), Taijul Islam (37th), Umesh Yadav (44th), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (48th) and Rubel Hossain (86th).
