Kolkata, Apr 15 (IBNS): Gautam Gambhir Foundation donated Rs. 4 lakh to the Ice Hockey Association of India on Tuesday for the upcoming 2015 Challenge Cup of Asia which will be held in Kuwait.

Radio network 93.5 Red FM and Gautam Gambhir Foundation have taken an initiative to support the Indian ice hockey team.

Captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Gautam Gambhir and Red FM's RJ Raunac handed over the cheque to the digital marketing head of the Ice Hockey Association of India Vedank Singh on Tuesday through a programme in south Kolkata's South City Mall.

Donating the money, KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir told IBNS, "Very few people know about Indian ice hockey team and their funds are not sufficient and they are going to compete in upcoming championship in Kuwait. So, we are trying to help them and also wish them all the best."

The Ice Hockey Association of India hosts an online campaign in twitter (#supporticehockey) to promote the game and Indian ice hockey players too.

Taking the donation, the digital marketing head of the Ice Hockey Association of India Vedank Singh told IBNS that the initiative of Red FM and Gautam Gambhir Foundation would raise the self-confidence and morale of ice hockey players to fight for their country at the courts of the international championship.
