Kolkata, Apr 8 (IBNS) Gautam Gambhir's Kolkata Knight Riders chase down a target of 169 with seven wickets in hand as Surya Kumar Yadav made a quickfire unbeaten 46 off 20 balls to sink Mumbai Indians here on Wednesday.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss elected to field first.

KKR captain Gautam Gambhir made 57 off 43 balls after Mumbai Indians posted a total of 168 runs on the scoreboard to give a strong start to the side even as the hosts lost Robin Uthappa (9)'s wicket early.

Manish Pandey chipped in with 40 runs off just 24 balls after KKR lost Robin Uthappa early on in their innings.

Jasprit Bumrah was the most expensive bowler for Mumbai Indians conceding 38 runs in 3 overs.

For Mumbai, Rohit Sharma (98*) and Corey Anderson (55*) held the fort after Mumbai Indians lost three wickets early on in the first innings.

Morne Morkel bowled a brilliant spell where he took two wickets conceding only 17 runs in his four overs.

Both teams' performance on the field was lacklustre as fielders dropped important catches during crucial times of their respective innings.
