SA 216/3 after 38 overs, rain halts match

Auckland, Mar 24 (IBNS) Rain has halted the semi-final clash between New Zealand and South Africa after 38 overs were bowled in the match here on Tuesday.

After losing early wickets and reducing to 114 for three wickets,South African batsmen Faf du Plessis (82*) and AB de Villiers (60*) recovered the innings and added 102 runs in the fourth wicket partnership.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first in the crucial match which will decide one of the finalists of the 50-over event.

South Africa have lost the wickets of Hasim Amla (10), Quinton de Kock (14), Rilee Rossouw  (39) so far.

Trent Boult has picked up two wickets for New Zealand.

Both South Africa and New Zealand have not played a World Cup final since the tournament commenced in 1975.
