Visakhapatnam/IBNS: Yashasvi Jaiswal completed his maiden double hundred and later Jasprit Bumrah scalped six wickets to help India take an upper hand on day 2 of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

Though India failed to touch the 400-mark despite Jaiswal's giant knock in the first innings, Bumrah, the premier fast bowler of India, delivered fiery spells against England, who were bowled out for 253.

Bumrah's six wickets comprise a stunning delivery which uprooted last match star Ollie Pope's stumps and shocked England skipper Ben Stokes (47) bowling him out in the ultimate session.

"At the end of the day, if you contribute towards the team's success, there is no better feeling, "says Bumrah after the end of the day's play.

Zak Crawley was the only English batter to hit a half century (76 off 78 balls) on a day the hosts managed to take a healthy lead of 143 runs in the first innings.

Expressing his joy at Bumrah's terrific bowling, former captain and ex-BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly posted on X, "When I see Bumrah Sami Siraj Mukesh bowl . I wonder why do we need to prepare turning tracks in india ..my conviction of playing on good wickets keeps getting stronger every game ..

"They will get 20 wickets on any surface with ashwin jadeja Kuldeep and axar .. batting quality dropping because of pitches in last 6 to 7 yrs at home ..good wickets are a must .. india will still win over 5 days .. @bcci." (sic)

At stumps, India's openers, Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma, improved the lead by 28 runs.

Early in the morning, 22-year-old Jaiswal became the third youngest Indian to hit a double hundred in Test cricket during the first innings of the second Test.

Jaiswal follows Vinod Kambli and Sunil Gavaskar in the list of youngest Indians to score 200 in a Test innings.

Jaiswal, who reached his 100 with a six, hit a boundary to slam his maiden 200 receiving a loud cheer from the crowd and his dressing room.

The southpaw, who single-handedly led India's batting with no half century from the other end, was dismissed for 209 off 290 balls.

Jaiswal, who powered his innings with 19 fours and 7 sixes, was sent back to the pavilion by English bowling veteran James Anderson, who clinched three wickets for 47 runs at a stupendous economy of 1.90 per over.

After Jaiswal's departure, the Indian batting order, which saw many unfinished starts, couldn't survive for long as the hosts were bundled out for 396.

Shubman Gill (34), Patidar (32), Axar Patel (27), Shreyas Iyer (27) were some of the batters, whose dismissals brought England back to the game at different times on the first day of the play.
