J&K grapplers looking to qualifying for the National Wrestling Championship

Jammu/UNI: Ahead of the first-ever Senior Beach Men and Women National Wrestling Championship to be held in Tamil Nadu, the grapplers from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be taking part in bouts under different weight categories on August 17 at Bajrangi Akhara here, officials said on Thursday.

The Wrestling Association of J&K, General Secretary, Ajay Vaid said the wrestling body will be holding the first of its kind competition on August 17 at Bajrangi Akhara.

He added the day-long competitions are being organised under the auspices of the Wrestling Federation of India, J&K Sports Council and J&K Olympic Association.

“This is for the first time that the Wrestling Federation of India is organizing the First Senior Beach Men and Women National Wrestling Championship scheduled to be held at the Beach Resort complex, Tamil Nadu Tourist Development Corporation Ltd East Coast Road, Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu from August 29 to 30 in four weight categories in both styles, otherwise in 10 weight categories,” said Vaid.

The competitions will be held in 70 Kg, 80 Kg, 90 Kg & plus 90 Kg (for men) and 50 kg, 60 Kg, 70 Kg and plus 70 Kg (for women) weight categories.

All participating wrestlers in their respective weight categories have to report AT the venue on August 17 for weighing along with their identity proof.

“The winner of First J&K UT Beach Wrestling Championship will represent the UT in the National Championship,” the governing body of wrestling in Jammu and Kashmir said.
