Kolkata, Sept 2 (IBNS): Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who is known for making Bollywood films like Jab We Met , Love Aaj Kal and Rockstar, said he is inspired by Bengali culture and literature as he announced internationally acclaimed ad film maker Bauddhayan Mukherji's debut Bengali movie 'Teenkahon', (Three Obsessions) in Kolkata on Tuesday.

He said he will not be able to make Bengali films as he does not know the language.

When asked about his interest in directing movie in Tollywood, Imtiaz said, “I don’t think I will be able to direct any Bengali film, as Bengali is not my mother tongue.  Bengali literature and culture has inspired me a lot, including the works of Satyajit Ray.”

Speaking on 'Teenkahon', Imtiaz Ali said, “I loved the movie.  I felt it is a good old classic Bengali cinema of the 60’s. Though I have nothing to do with the making of “Teenkahon”, I liked it very much to be involved with it. I was very excited to watch this film. I feel that Bengali movie has given a lot to the world and here I  proudly presented ‘Teenkahon’.”

“The film reminds you of what is great in Bengali culture and the Bengali movie making culture. There has been a certain standard of inspiration and creativity in Bengali movies that has inspired the whole world and to see the traces of it coming back, to see the fact that it can be like that once more, was very exhilarating and I see that in ‘Teenkahon’,” he added.

Imtiaz Ali said he hopes to see the flm “Teenkahon” becomes inspiration for more such upcoming films and also appreciated  actors Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Rituparna Sengupta, Dhritiman Chaterji and Suman Mukhopadhyay for their performances in the film.

He said, “’Teenkahon’ showcases a filmmaker who can make a huge difference to cinema and I hope it inspires more films not only in Bengal but in the country as well.”

Rituparna Sengupta said, “It was a great satisfaction working with Bauddhayan Mukherji and even Monalisa Mukherji, who gave her best in this movie. Each and every role played by the character had certain honesty in them and I would love to work with Buddhayan Mukherji in future as well.”

Produced by Little Lamb Films, ‘Teenkahon’ is set to hit the theatre on Sept 11.
