Ayodhya Ram Temple consecration: UNGA President Dennis Francis says he feels delighted to visit India when the country is celebrating 'Second Diwali'

United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) president Dennis Francis said he felt delighted arriving in India on a day when the country was celebrating 'second Diwali' with the inauguration of the newly built Rem Temple in Ayodhya.

He is visiting India at the invitation of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar from January 22 to January 26.

He posted on X: "Delighted to arrive in New Delhi on an auspicious day when the country is celebrating its ‘Second Diwali’."

"Looking forward to fruitful discussions over the next few days on Peace, Progress, Prosperity and Sustainability!" he said.

Belonging to the diplomatic service of Trinidad and Tobago, Dennis Francis has announced his Presidency priorities to include peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability.

The theme of his Presidency of the 78th UNGA is "Rebuilding trust and reigniting solidarity.” During the visit, PGA will hold talks with EAM on key multilateral issues of mutual interest.

In New Delhi, PGA will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

PGA is also to attend a round table on India’s advancements in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

"PGA will also deliver a public address at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) on 'Multilateralism and Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability' on 24 January 2024," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

PGA will also travel to Jaipur and Mumbai. In Mumbai, he will pay floral tributes at the 26/11 memorial. PGA’s engagements in Mumbai will include a visit to the National Stock Exchange and an address on New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF).

On January 26, on the occasion of Republic Day, PGA will participate as a State guest in the Republic Day Parade of Maharashtra.
