Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is mulling closure of schools in the wake of COVID-19 spike with an added threat from 'Omicron' variant.

Speaking at an administrative meeting, Banerjee said, "We may close schools if COVID-19 spikes... We will have to reassess the situation."

She also stressed on 50 percent work front in offices to curb the spread of the contagion.

Besides this, the Chief Minister on Wednesday took a dig at the Centre over its decision to jab people with anti-COVID-19 booster doses.

"The Centre is speaking about booster dose. It should first give the second dose of COVID-19 to all people. 40 percent people (in the country) are yet to be fully vaccinated," said Banerjee.

India witnessed a massive spike in Covid-19 cases with Mumbai and Delhi registering a 70 percent and 50 percent jump over a 24-hour period.

Delhi and Mumbai have already plunged into restriction mode to tackle the virus.
