Prashant Kishor has registered himself as a voter in Kolkata

Kolkata/IBNS: Political strategist Prashant Kishor has registered himself as a voter in the Bhabanipur legislative constituency. This has emerged just ahead of the crucial bypolls, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will contest to enter the West Bengal Assembly.

Prashant Kishor, who helped Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress register a massive victory in the Assembly elections, has been registered as a voter even before this election, reported NDTV.

He had even voted in the last assembly polls held in April-May this year.

As a voter from the area, Kishor can exercise his voting rights from Kolkata South in the Lok Sabha elections.

He was earlier a voter in his native village in Bihar's Sasaram district, the report said.

"He made the shift in view of apprehensions that the BJP might attempt to coerce the Election Commission to get him out of Kolkata amid the Assembly elections," NDTV quoted a source as saying.

"With his camping in Kolkata as campaigner, the BJP could go to the Election Commission to complain and ask how he continues to stay on as polling was spread across several phases even in individual districts."

The report said that Kishor's registered address is "care of" address as that of Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool leader and the Chief Minister's nephew.

Kishor had been staying with Abhishek Banerjee during Covid lockdown.

It was reported in June that the Trinamool Congress had extended its contract with I-PAC to 2026.
