Election Commission flying squad seize Rs 64.43 lakh cash in poll-bound Assam

Guwahati/UNI: After declaration of assembly election of Assam, the election department has kept a strong vigil upon any complaint of violation of Model Code of Conduct and 5 cases of MCC violation have been reported in Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Kaliabor, Jorhat and Lakhimpur election district.

The complaint involved postering in public places, high volume marriage party, scooter distribution to beneficiary, placing of banner without NOC and despatching of blanket in a truck etc.

Concerned officers went on immediately on receipt of the complaints and disposed the cases at the spots including seizure of the blankets and keeping it  under safe custody.

On the other hand till Wednesday, an amount of Rs 64.43 lakh in cash and liquor worth Rs 53.58 lakh seized by police, flying squad and excise officials across the state.

The Election Commission flying squad who is monitoring the implementation of the model code of conduct and election expenditure, seized cash worth Rs 32 lakh from a car in Assam’s Biswanath district.

The flying squad had seized the cash amount from a car bearing registration number AS-07L-1891 near Helem police station on Tuesday evening.

The vehicle was coming from Dhalpur area in Lakhimpur district towards Biswanath Chariali.
