Kolkata/IBNS: In an almost competitive politics in inducting film personalities in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday welcomed Bengali actor Kaushik Roy to the partyfold.

Roy, a popular face on regional television channels, joined the saffron camp in presence of BJP state president Dilip Ghosh.

Roy, who has acted in both films and daily soaps, is presently seen in Bengali serial Khorkhuto.

In the run up to the assembly elections scheduled to be held by May, the ruling Trinamool Congress in recent times inducted popular Bengali film actors Saurav Das and Koushani Mukherjee.

The eastern state of West Bengal, which will plunge into high-octane polls, has witnessed popular film personalities taking up the challenge of contesting the elections in the last 10 years.

While Bengali film stars Satabdi Roy, Dev, Mimi Chakraborty, Nusrat Jahan Ruhi had successfully contested the Lok Sabha elections on Trinamool's ticket, actors-turned politicians like Roopa Ganguly and Locket Chatterjee became the BJP parliamentarians.
