Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday lamented over the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s decision to organise the third One Day International (ODI) match between India and South Africa at an empty Eden Gardens here due to Novel Coronavirus saying cricket board president Sourav Ganguly must have consulted with the state before making the announcement.

Banerjee made the comment while holding a meeting with various teams of I-League regarding the postponement of some matches amid the Coronavirus outbreak which has claimed a life and affected 81 people so far.

The Chief Minister told the BCCI officials, "Sourav must have consulted with the state government before making the announcement because we will be providing police to them."

The BCCI has announced the second and third ODI matches will be played at an empty stadium.

The second ODI match will be played in Lucknow on Sunday.

The Kolkata ODI is scheduled to be held on Mar 18.

Update: Both the ODI matches have now been rescheduled.

The BCCI along with Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday announced to reschedule the ongoing ODI series in view of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Cricket South Africa will visit India at a later date to play 3 One-day Internationals, the BCCI said in a statement.

The BCCI-CSA will jointly work out the revised schedule, the Indian cricket board said.

Banerjee also urged the football teams of I-League which are based in the state to at least postpone the remaining matches of the tournament till Mar 31 if not Apr 15.

Mohun Bagan has already won the I-League this year.
