New Delhi/IBNS: Police resorted to lathicharge and used tear gas shells as yet another protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act turned violent in Delhi's Seelampur area on Tuesday, media reports said.

The protesters reportedly threw stones at the police and even vandalised vehicles in the area.

According to a senior police officer, the protest began around 12 pm and the people from the area gathered at a prominent crossing, reported NDTV.

A protest against the new citizenship law on Sunday turned violent in the national capital. The protest involved students of Jamia Millia Islamia University.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said the entry and exit gates of Seelampur and Gokulpuri have been closed.

"Trains will not be halting at these stations," the corporation tweeted.

Traffic movement in the area has been hit following the protests.
