Lucknow, Jul 10 (UNI) Sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence and office of Bulandshahr District Magistrate Abhay Singh on Wednesday in connection with the sand mining scam in Uttar Pradesh.

Along with the Bulandshar DM, the CBI team also raided the office and residence of Prathma UP Gramin Bank general manager Shailesh Ranjan in Moradabad in some bank fraud case.

Sources said that the CBI team of around 20 people in three vehicles reached the residence of the Bulandshahr DM in the morning and removed all the people from the house except for the CM and his family members.

The raid on the Bulandshahr CM is being conducted when he was the DM of Fatehpur during the Samajwadi party regime.

Abhay Singh, becomes the second IAS officer after Ms Chandrakala against whom CBI conducted raid in the mining scam.

CBI had raided at the residences of several people in the first week of January in UP and Delhi in connection with the sand mining scam.

Prominent among those, whose residences were raided in January including senior IAS officer B Chandrakala in Lucknow, BSP leader Satyadev Dikshit and SP MLC Ramesh Mishra in Hamirpur in connection with the illegal sand mining case.

Chandrakala is said to be hugely popular on social media for her crusade against corruption. Chandrakala is 2008 batch IAS officer of the UP cadre. She hails from Telangana.

Chandrakala has come under scanner for allegedly bypassing rules and regulations for granting licenses for sand mining during her tenure as District Magistrate of Hamirpur in 2012.

The CBI is currently investigating the charges of illegal mining in five districts of Uttar Pradesh - Shamli, Hamirpur, Fatehpur, Siddharthnagar, and Deoria during the previous Samajwadi Party regime.

The central probe agency has taken up the matter on the directions of Allahabad High Court in July 2017.

As per reports, the high court had directed the CBI to probe the matter after a plea was filed alleging that illegal mining was taking place in the state with an active role of government officials.

It may be recalled that several policemen and government officials have been killed for raising voice against illegal sand mining.
