New Delhi, June 24 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Monday directed both the Centre and the state government to submit their responses to the encephalitis which broke out in Bihar claiming lives of more than 130 children, media reports said.

The top court has asked the Centre and the Bihar government to file an affidavit giving details of facilities regarding public health, nutrition and sanitation to treat children suffering from Acute Encephalitis Syndrome.

The disease has claimed more than 130 lives so far with majority of them in Muzaffarpur.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi visited state-run Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur on last Tuesday.

He has also announced Rs. 4 lakh as compensation to the next of the kin of those who have died.

Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Monday chaired a meeting which was attended by officials from the Health Ministry, AIIMS and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
