Will implement simple GST after coming to power: Rahul Gandhi

Itanagar, Mar 19 (IBNS): Addressing a poll campaign, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi here on Tuesday said his party will implement a simple Goods and Services Tax (GST) once voted to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Referring to the GST, which was implemented by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in 2017, Gandhi said: "We can't understand the GST brought by the Modi government. So Congress has decided to implement a simple GST after coming to power."

Apart from GST, Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Rafale deal (buying of 36 fighter jets from France by India), demonetisation as well.

"In 2014, Modi said he wants to be chowkidar (gate-keeper) of the country but now he is referring to all Indians as chowkidars. He is doing so because he has stolen money," the Congress chief said referring to an alleged Rafale scam.

The 17th Lok Sabha polls will begin on Apr 11 and end on May 19.

The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
