Son of man killed by cow vigilantes arrested for smuggling cows

Jaipur, Jan 24 (IBNS): The father of a 22-year-old man arrested on Tuesday for alleged cow smuggling had been killed by cow vigilantes in November 2017.

Police arrested Maqsood Khan and five others in Rajasthan's Alwar district on Tuesday.

Speaking to The Times of India, police officer Umesh Beniwal said: "We got information about this gang around midnight on Monday, we reached the location where they were said to be looking for stray cattle and detained them. We found one country-made pistol, nine live bullets and 40 bottles of alcohol in the car."

The police did not find any cow in their possession.

Apart from Maqsood, the others arrested are Liyaqat Khan, Shabbir Khan, Sameen Khan, Asroo Khan and Irshad Khan.

The Rajasthan and Haryana and paid compensation of a few lakhs to the family after the killing of Maqsood's father.

"In last three months, we had multiple confrontations with the alleged cow smugglers in the area. Sameen and Asroo are the main players of this gang and Maqsood also works for them. This gang also has multiple cases of loot and attack on police personnel filed against them in Haryana and Rajasthan," the report quoted Beniwal as saying.
