The Gujarat  Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Monday arrested four Islamic State terrorists from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad city, media reports said.

The arrested people are all Sri Lankan nationals.

They first arrived in Chennai and later reached Ahmedabad, reported India Today.

They were waiting for a message from Pakistani handlers at the Ahmedabad airport, sources told the Indian news channel.

According to reports, they have been taken to an undisclosed location for questioning.

Security was heightened at the airport following the arrests.

The arrests were made ahead of the arrival of cricket teams to play the qualifier and eliminator games of the Indian Premier League.

India is also voting in the fifth phase of the general elections on Monday (May 20, 2024).
