2019 anti-BJP front has a name but won't reveal now: Sitaram Yechury

Kolkata, July 13 (IBNS): Keeping suspense over the possible united opposition against the saffron party for the 2019 General Election, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury has said the anti-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) front has a name but he won't reveal it now, media reports said.

Yechury made the comment while addressing a press conference in Kolkata recently.

Speaking about the united opposition against the BJP, Yechury said: "Even if I know the name I won't tell you now..."

Yechury has been quoted by NDTV.

The senior Left leader further added to say the so called "mahagathbandhan" will be formed only after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

He said the united opposition will have a secular fabric.

The talks of a collective opposition has been doing the round for couple of years now.

The possibility of the united front to tackle the BJP in the next Lok Sabha election has become a bit visible at Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy's swearing-in ceremony, which took place in presence of a host of opposition leaders.

Eventually, the BJP suffered electoral defeats in recent by-polls where the saffron party had to contest against a collective opposition.

Interestingly, few regional leaders like Telegu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee and Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao spoke in favour of a federal front, which will be devoid of both the BJP and the Congress.
