Mumbai, Jun 25 (IBNS): Three persons were killed as heavy rains pounded Mumbai and adjoining Thane district for the past two days while a wall of an upscale Mumbai complex collapsed on Monday in the southern part of the city, media reports said.

According to reports, two people died and five were injured on Sunday after a tree fell on them near Metro Cinema at MG Road in South Mumbai's Marine Lines area. A 13-year-old boy was also killed and his parents were injured in a wall collapse on their house at Wadol village in Thane early on Monday.

The rains resulted in water logging in some parts of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, including Chembur East, Sion, Matunga East, Vasi and Khargar. The situation has led to late running of trains on all three lines of Central Railway and Western Railway. Because of waterlogging road traffic movement has also been disrupted.

The Indian Meteorological Department has said that heavy to very heavy rains were expected to continue.  More than 200 mm of rainfall has reportedly been recorded in the last 24 hours

Meanwhile,  a huge section of the compound wall of Lloyds estate in south Mumbai's Wadala East area collapsed on Monday morning damaging at least 15 vehicles.  Residents were evacuated and no casualties were reported.

Anila Pillai, a resident of the complex, told NDTV, "We had alerted the authorities but no action was taken. The wall collapsed this morning after the heavy rain."
