Unnao, Apr 10 (IBNS): Brother of a BJP lawmaker, who has been accused by a 16-year-old girl of rape, was arrested by the police on Tuesday, reports said.

He is accused of  thrashing the girl's father in Unnao town of Uttar Pradesh.

The arrested person has been identified as Atul.

The father of a woman, who had alleged raped by a BJP lawmaker and attempted suicide outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home on Sunday, died on Monday morning  at the district hospital, media reports said.

The man was in judicial custody after a complaint was filed against his daughter's alleged rapists.

The woman had alleged that she was raped by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the BJP legislator from Unnao, and his brother last year, but the police refused to take any action against them.

She also claimed that her family was being threatened after they tried to file an FIR.

It has been alleged that last week the woman's father was  assaulted by Sengar and his brother. But instead of booking them, an FIR was filed against the victim and  he was arrested by the Unnao police.

On Sunday, when the man complained of abdominal pain, he was admitted to the district hospital where he died on Monday, media reports said.

On Sunday, the woman, along with other members of her family attempted suicide in protest against the "inaction" of police.

According to CNN-News18, the woman first tried to pour oil and set herself ablaze outside Yogi's residence  in Lucknow and then later at the Gautam Palli Police Station.

Meanwhile, Sengar called it a "pre-planned" incident. "There was an incident in their family and a case was registered. Police saved two innocent people, I am being made a scapegoat by them," he was quoted as saying in The Indian Express report.
