Kolkata, Apr 1 (IBNS): A  four-member central BJP delegation visited Asansol on Sunday.

The delegation visited the West Bengal town to take stock of the situation in Asansol which was hit by violence over Ram Navami processions in recent times.

The party delegation comprised of BJP national vice-president and Rajya Sabha member Om Prakash Mathur, national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain, Palamu MP and former director-general of Jharkhand police Vishnu Dayal Ram and Rajya Sabha member Roopa Ganguly.

According to reports, they are going to submit their report on the visit to Asansol to BJP chief Amit Shah.

West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, on Saturday, met senior police and administrative officials in violence-hit Asansol and Raniganj, according to media reports.

The Asansol-Raniganj belt saw clashes between two groups of people over Ram Navami processions that left one person killed and two police officers injured, media reports said.

To stem the violence, West Bengal police suspended internet services in the area and issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC.
