Hyderabad, Dec 23 (IBNS): A woman, who was set on fire by her jilted lover on Thursday, succumbed to her injuries on Friday, reports said.

The incident took place in Hyderabad.

The deceased has been identified as Sandhya Rani, a 23-year-old.

The killer is 25-year-old Vanga Karthik, who is currently under arrest and place in police custody.

According to The Hindu, police are now modifying the case as homicide, to try him for the murder.

Karthik and Rani worked in the same place where they developed a bond.

Things went sour after the former was dismissed from his job for underperforming.

"He was employed at the workshop more than a year-and-a- half ago. Karthik was sacked for not performing at work,” said V. Jagan Reddy, the proprietor of Lucky Traders, where the two worked.

According to the Reddy, Karthik would pester Rani with marriage proposals, which she denied.

"On Wednesday, Rani said she cannot accept Karthik as he did not have a job. I counselled him to prove himself before he proposed marriage," Reddy said.

Police have also collected a cellphone as part of the evidence.

The phone was gifted by Kartik to Rani, who as per the former's request asked Reddy to return it to Kartik.

Assuring justice, Telangana Minister T. Srinivas Yadav has announced a two-bedroom house in the State’s housing project along with monetary help as ex-gratia for the victim's kin.
