Jaipur/IBNS: 18-year-old Soyeb Aftab from Odisha not only topped the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) but also scored a perfect 720 out of 720 marks.

Hailing from Rourkela, Soyeb wants to be a cardiac surgeon.

He used the coronavirus lockdown to study even harder for the entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses.

"I haven't gone back to my hometown since 2018," Soyeb told NDTV channel. "I stayed in Kota with my mother and younger sister to study," he added.

While most students in Kota petitioned to go back home during the lockdown, Soyeb stayed put in the city with his mother and sister.

Nearly 16 lakh students had applied to appear for NEET which was deferred twice this year because of the pandemic.

The exam was finally held on Sept 13.

Students who missed the exam on the date owing to the restrictions were allowed to sit for the test on Wednesday.
