New Delhi/IBNS: India, the worst Novel Coronavirus-affected Asian country, has reported over 62,000 Covid-19 cases besides 1,007 deaths due to the contagion in a span of 24 hours between Sunday and Monday mornings.

With 62,064 new cases, India's Covid-19 tally touched 22,15,075 while 44,386 people have so far succumbed to the virus, as per the data of the country's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

While 15,35,743 Covid patients including 54,859 in the last 24 hours have been discharged from medical facilities across the country, India still has 6,34,945 active Coronavirus patients.

Though the Covid-19 toll is much lower compared to other nations, several health experts have repeatedly warned that the country's poor health infrastructure may get overwhelmed by the wave of cases.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu has tested positive for Covid-19.

The minister, who is suffering from mild fever, has been admitted to the state-run Bowring Hospital.

Earlier Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and his predecessor Siddaramaiah had tested positive for the contagion.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan have recovered from the respiratory disease, which still has no vaccine or cure.
