Anjan's film inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet selected for Sillicon Valley festival
Kolkata, July 20 (IBNS) Anjan Dutt’s Hemanta, the new age Bengali adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, has been selected for the FOG (Festival of Globe) International Film Festival,Silicon Valley,San Francisco.
Hemanta will be among the three Bengali films - D Major' by Samik Roy Choudhury and 'Dark Chocolate' by Agnidev Chatterjee making the cut for the 10-day big event from August 5 to 14 where film and music celebrities from across the globe are among the star attractions, the producers said quoting a communiqué.
Talking about Hemanta, a proud Anjan said earlier, “Initially, I thought my next project could be either Hamlet, Macbeth or King Lear. But I settled for Hamlet after watching
Haider and started weaving my own tale."
In social media post, Dutt said: "I take all the onus if the film goes wrong. To do this, one has to believe in oneself and the audience. Its not a gamble but a question of basic trust on a genius like Shakespeare."
Set in the 2009 against the backdrop of the showbiz world, Hemanta casts Parambrata Chattopadhyay in lead role, years after 'The Bong Connection' and 'Chalo Let’s Go' by the same director..
Dutta said, “he is my perfect choice….he has the accent, the attitude of a New York grad, apart from being urban, and wacky.”
There is then Jisshu Sengupta as Hirak.
“He is (Jisshu) my Horatio and Saswata Chatterjee my Cladius," Anjan said.
About Hemanta, Anjan boasts in twitter, "Hemanta/hamlet is any director's dream". 'I'm too old to play #hemanta/hamlet, so parambrata".
About D Major, the director Samik Roychoudhury said: "We only have two lives, but we realize that when we are just left with one to do something worthy in our life." and the sweet chord of D Major resonated in the air.
Dark Chocolate is inspired by real life tales of diabolical murder of loved ones by rich and influential people when they felt threatened but the incidents in the film are fictional, explained director Agnidev Chatterjee.
