Police seized illegal marijuana plants from Health Canada licensed grow-op in Ontario

India Blooms News Service | | 09 Oct 2016, 05:10 pm
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Oct. 9 (IBNS): Police have seized more than 4,000 illicit marijuana plants worth more than an estimated four million dollars from a Health Canada approved grow-op on Oct 3.

Sources confirmed that many people were misusing Health Canada medical marijuana licences to hide illegal grow-ops.

After thirteen months of investigation by Niagara Regional Police three search warrants were issued at 1651 Lakeshore Road in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario and the police arrested 18 people and seized more than 4,000 plants.

In the most recent raid on Monday the suspects arrested tried to hide their criminal activities by using legal medical marijuana licences for their excess of production.

Investigations by the police confirmed police’ suspicion that the excess production of marijuana produced -- with an estimated street value of more than four million dollars -- was not being used for medicinal purposes.

Police was concerned about the health hazards of the crtoiminal subculture -- of this illegal grow-ops -- both to the public and to those who operated them.

Referring to a recent violent home invasion armed robbery in one of the sites of the illegal marijuana grow-op, police encouraged anyone with information on illegal grow-ops in the region to contact police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
