San Francisco: At least three people were wounded in an overnight shooting at Kirkland, U.S. state of Washington, police said on Monday.

Kirkland Police Department (KPD) said in a statement: "At about 12:05 a.m. on Monday, July 24, KPD received several 911 calls from people reporting hearing shots at Houghton Beach Park, located near the 5900 block of Lake Washington Boulevard."

Kirkland Police said its officers responded and found three victims at the park who had gunshot wounds – two teenagers and one young adult.

"The three victims received aid at the scene and then were transported to area hospitals for further treatment," read the statement.

"Based on initial statements, a group of individuals were inside the park after hours when an altercation occurred. One individual opened fire, hitting three others. Shell casings were recovered at the park," read the statement.

Police said the suspect was probably not present in Kirkland.

Police are investigating the case.
