Washington/IBNS: A Walmart employee Tuesday shot dead six people at a store in US's Virginia bustling with Thanksgiving holiday shoppers, before killing himself, police said Wednesday.

This is the country's second mass shooting in four days.

Four other people remained hospitalized following the Tuesday night attack at the Walmart store in Chesapeake, Virginia, police chief Mark Solesky told reporters.

Solesky told a news conference the gunman was believed to have died of a "self-inflicted gunshot wound".

He said the motive behind the latest attack was not immediately known.

Walmart issued a statement saying they were 'shocked' by the incident.

"We are shocked at this tragic event at our Chesapeake, Virginia store. We’re praying for those impacted, the community and our associates. We’re working closely with law enforcement, and we are focused on supporting our associates" the post read.

The assault took place two days before Thanksgiving, the quintessential American family holiday to be celebrated on Nov 24 this year.

Earlier during the weekend, a gun attack at an LGBTQ club in Colorado left five people killed.

Tuesday's attack was also the second mass shooting in the state of Virginia this month.

In the earlier rampage, three students at the University of Virginia who played on its football team were killed on Nov 13 by a classmate after a field trip.
