Ontario Ontario's new COVID-19 cases of 1,575 break its previous one-day record
Toronto, Nov 12 (IBNS): Ontario's renewed surge in infections on Nov 12 with a record high of 1,575 Covid-19 cases as against 1,426 on Nov 11, broke its previous single-day record, media reports said.
According to recent projections by the COVID-19 Modelling Collaborative group, which includes scientists and physicians from the University of Toronto, University Health Network, and Sunnybrook Hospital Ontario is on track for 2,000 cases a day around Dec. 1.
"We'd have to start seeing a huge change in terms of the restrictions that we have in place to not hit 2,000," said Ashleigh Tuite, an infectious diseases epidemiologist at the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health, who is not part of the Modelling Collaborative team, in an interview with CBC News, "We're on this trajectory and we're not doing enough at this point to change that trajectory."
Only two of Ontario's 34 public health units have been placed in the "red zone" alert level by the provincial government, including Toronto (starting this weekend) and Peel Region.
The medical officers of health in both areas have decided the red zone restrictions imposed by the province are insufficient and have announced additional measures to slow the spread of the virus.
