Ottawa, Oct 23 (IBNS): Ottawa, ON, Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North was honoured to second a Private Member’s Bill introduced by Sukh Dhaliwal, Member of Parliament for Surrey-Newton, to recognize April as Sikh Heritage Month.

“I am extremely proud of the contributions that Sikh Canadians have made to Canada, and Bill C-376 will allow us to recognize those contributions and educate future generations about our language, traditions and place in Canada,” said MP Sahota.

“I look at my personal story, the daughter of hard working immigrants, and how today, I was able to second this bill. I want other young visible minorities to know that anything is possible, and that their stories are Canadian Stories that must be shared as a part of our Canadian Heritage,” she added.

Bill C-376 has been placed on the list of “Private Members’ Business – Item Outside of the Order of Precedence” and is set for second reading and reference to a committee in the
coming weeks.

Bill C-376 is an act to designate the month of April as Sikh Heritage Month.
