Swabi:  People of Shewa Adda, Razaar tehsil headquarters and the adjoining villages in Pakistan on Monday blocked  Swabi-Mardan Road for nearly three hours to protest against power cuts for several hours in the region.

The people of numerous villages reached Shewa Adda on motorcycles and tractor-trolleys and blocked the road for all kind of traffic at the main intersection, chanting slogans against Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) and elected representatives, reports Dawn News.

The protesting people were seen holding placards inscribed with slogans against Pesco for resorting to long power suspensions.

A contingent of police was deployed on the spot to deal with any unpleasant situation in case the protesters turned violent, reports Dawn News.

The speakers said power supply remained suspended for hours even if there was little rain. They complained the Pesco staffers did not attend calls by consumers to know about the reasons for frequent power outages, reported the newspaper.
