Pakistan’s Sindh province orders closure of educational institutions

South Asia Monitor/IBNS | @indiablooms | 26 Apr 2021, 10:43 pm

As Covid-19 infections remain unchecked in Pakistan, the Sindh provincial government has ordered the closure of all educational institutions along with some other measures in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus, reported Dawn.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting of the Provincial Coronavirus Task Force on Monday. The government announced several measures including banning intercity transportation from 28 April.

All government offices in the province will operate with just twenty percent strength, Murtaza Wahab, the spokesperson of the Sindh government, was quoted as saying by Dawn. Indoor and outdoor dining were also banned.  All markets in the provinces have been ordered to close by 6 pm.

The stringent measures came after Sindh witnessed a surge in infections. 453 ICU beds out of the total 664 are currently occupied in the province. Positive cases have increased to three-four times in the last week, the provincial health minister informed in the meeting.
